Weedsport Kartway Eyeing July 12 as Season Opener
WEEDSPORT, NY (May 29, 2020) – With the cancellation of all Weedsport Speedway events through the month of June due to COVID-19 regulations in the state of New York, Weedsport Kartway now eyes Sunday, July 12 as the first round of the 2020 Super Kart Series.
Despite the loss of the series opener on Sunday, May 24, the Super Kart Series is still hopeful to cover five point paying events with racing scheduled for July 12, August 30, September 20, as well as point events on October 17 and October 18 as part of Octoberfest III.
“We’re still waiting official confirmation from local officials, but we are hopeful to get things started at the Kartway on July 12,” said Weedsport Speedway Promoter, Jimmy Phelps. “We again thank our supporters for their patience as we do our best to follow best practices and protocols at both Weedsport Speedway and Weedsport Kartway.”
The Super Kart Series lid lifter on July 12 will feature eight point classes as well as $250 to win PRO Jr. Unrestricted main and a $1,000 to win PRO Clone 360 special.
Point classes include Jr. Red Clone, Jr. Green Clone, Jr. Purple Clone, Jr. Blue Clone, Jr. Unrestricted, Clone Light, Clone Heavy and Clone Super Heavy.
All classes follow AKRA clone engine guidelines. Burris 33a tires are mandatory.
Pit gates are scheduled to open at 10 a.m. on Sunday, July 12 with practice slated for 1 p.m. and time trials to follow.
