DSC_5654WEEDSPORT, NY- August 7, 2016- The Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modifieds will be making their first appearance at Weedsport Speedway this season on Tuesday, Aug. 9 for the illustrious Hall of Fame 100. The Northeast Dirt Modified Hall of Fame will be celebrating its 25th annual induction ceremonies the night prior to the Hall of Fame 100 on Monday, Aug. 8.

So far there have been 22 Hall of Fame races, 12 different winners and seven repeat winners. There are three drivers who are currently tied with the most Hall of Fame wins: Danny Johnson, Billy Decker and Matt Sheppard who all have three wins each.

017The 2015 Super DIRTcar Series Hall of Fame 100 saw Sheppard take home the $10,000 victory over Jimmy Phelps and Tim Fuller.

Last years Hall of Fame victor tells us what he thinks about going back to his home roots this week for such an illustrious race.

There have been 22 Hall of Fame races, 12 different winners and seven repeat winners. You are one of three drivers that are tied with the most wins. Do you think you can break that tie on Tuesday?

“I sure hope so. We’ve been rolling along pretty good. I always enjoy racing at Weedsport. I grew up going there and started racing there. Now that they don’t race fulltime I enjoy going back when we can.”

Who do you think will be tough to beat this week?

“You can’t single out one or two people. There’s probably going to be ten or fifteen cars there that will be extremely tough to beat. Weedsport has been around a long time. Guys like myself, Billy Decker, Danny Johnson and Jimmy Phelps have all run millions of laps around that place but there’s going to be a lot of tough competition there so it’s tough to single out just one driver.”

IMG_0056How does it feel racing in honor of those who have been inducted into the Hall of Fame?

“It’s kind of just the idea of enjoying the history of dirt motorsports. I think the Hall of Fame is a great deal. It’s a great way to honor the drivers and people who have been involved in this sport. I always look forward to the Hall of Fame 100. I think it’s one of the coolest races of the year.”

What do you think of the improvements the track has been making?

“The facility is obviously gorgeous. The facility is second to none. As far as the racetrack itself, it’s still Weedsport. The race is pretty much the same it always has throughout the years. They’ve just really improved the facility. It’s definitely an enjoyable experience.”
