Evening Showers Postpone Fonda Speedway ‘Firecracker 50’ to Sunday, July 5
FONDA, NY – A late afternoon steady rain moved over Fonda Speedway on Wednesday, prompting the postponement of the Fuccillo Automotive Group ‘Firecracker 50’ to Sunday (July 5).
The Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco annual visit to the ‘Track of Champions’ drew a huge field of race cars. Forty-five STSS Modifieds and 34 STSS Crate 602 Sportsman had signed in for competition. With rain still falling shortly after 7 p.m. and the track surface saturated, the decision was made to postpone the event.
“The forecast looked to be positive for late afternoon and evening, but a large pop-up cell from the north soaked us at the last minute,” STSS organizer Brett Deyo said. “We felt our best option was to postpone the event to Sunday with a more positive forecast.”
All wristbands from Wednesday will be honored on Sunday.
The STSS Modifieds had not completed their draw for position yet. The STSS Crate 602 Sportsman draw will stand. New entries will be accepted for both.
Admission for the Sunday event is $20. Seniors pay $18. Kids 11 and under are FREE. Pit admission is $30 (Fonda Members) or $35 (Non-Members).
Gates will open at 4 p.m., with hot laps at 6 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m.
The event will be streamed live on Dirt Track Digest TV.
With the ‘Firecracker 50’ postponed to Sunday, two days of racing are planned for the Track of Champions this weekend. Saturday’s (July 4) event, presented by Recovery Sports Grill, includes Sunoco Modifieds ($4,000 to win), Swagger Factory Apparel Crate 602 Sportsman, Algonkin Motel Pro Stocks ($1,776 to win), Montgomery County Office for Aging Limited Sportsman, Roberts Towing & Recovery Street Stocks and Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modifieds.
On Saturday, gates open at 4 p.m., with hot laps at 6 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m. Adult admission for Saturday is $11. Seniors pay $9. Kids 11 and under are FREE. Pit admission is $30 (Fonda Members) or $35 (Non-Members).
At all Fonda Speedway events, masks are required for entry. Social distancing and CDC guidelines must be followed.
