WEST BURNLINGTON, IA- June 13, 2017- When the 2017 racing season schedule was released in early January for 34 Raceway in West Burlington, IA, the 410 Outlaw Sprint fans had Sunday, June 11th marked on their calendars. As the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions 410 Sprint Series, which is owned by former NASCAR star Tony Stewart, made a return trip to the track after several years of hiatus.

Once all qualifying events were complete the 12 lap Crazy Coyote Mini Hauler Trucks was the first to take to the track, with Dane Fenton and Drake Fenton drawing the front row. Dane used his starting spot to jump out into the lead on lap 1 over Billy Stanford and Dylan Reverend. But Stanford would slip past Dane on lap 2 to take the top spot away. Dane tried to work under Stanford over the next 4 laps, but Stanford was able to hold him off each lap.

Then coming off turn 4 to complete lap 7 Dane was able to edge Stanford at the line to take the lead back. But before the lap was scored complete the caution came out for debris in turn 3, which handed the lead back over to Stanford. On the restart Stanford moved back out front, with Dane Fenton and Drake Fenton glued to his back bumper. Dane went back to trying to work under Stanford over the next 4 laps, but again Stanford was able to hold him off each lap. Then coming off turn 4 to get the checkered flag Dane was able to get up beside Stanford, as the two raced side-by-side down the front stretch. Stanford would edge out Dane at the line by inches to pick up his first win of the season at the track.

Dane Fenton settled for 2nd, Drake Fenton was 3rd, Lake Carlson was 4th, with Larry Johnson rounding out the top 5.

Up next was the 12 lap Sunoco Fuels Mod Lites feature, with Austin Hayes and Mike Morrill leading the field to the drop of the green flag. Morrill took advantage of his front row starting spot to grab the lead on lap 1 over Charlie Brown and Hayes. The action up front was slowed for the first time on lap 2, when Michael Dominguez spun in turn 1 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Scott Sappington Jr. got upside down in turn 1 and collecting Austin Bowling to bring out the red. Sappington Jr. climbed from his car okay.

The following restart saw Morrill jump back out front, with Devon Rouse and Jason Masengarb, who started 10th, close behind. One lap later, lap 4, Brian Tipps, who was running 4th, spun in turn 4 to bring out the third caution of the race. Morrill again grabbed the lead on the restart, with Masengarb and Wyatt Wilkerson, who started 12th, over taking Rouse for second and third. But disaster would strike Morrill on lap 6, when he spun in turn 2 to bring out the final caution of the event. Masengarb inherited the lead for the restart, with Wilkerson and Joel Huggins close behind. Wilkerson tried to work under Masengarb over the final 5 laps, but Masengarb was able to hold him off to claim his fourth win of the season at the track.

Wilkerson settled for 2nd, Rouse was 3rd, Randy Bryan started 8th and finished 4th, with Morrill coming back up to finish 5th after spinning from the lead on lap 6.

Tyson Hart and Jeff Mallonee led the field to green in the 24 lap “Aaron Hull Memorial” IMRA Midget feature, with Hart moving out front to lead lap 1 over Mallonee and Dillon Morley. Morley would slip under Mallonee for the runner up spot on lap 2, and then went to work on Hart for the lead. When Hart drifted high coming off turn 4 to complete lap 7, Morley was able to edge him out at the line to take over the lead.

Just after the lap was scored complete the first caution of the race slowed the battle up front. Derek Goble spun in turn 3 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Hart slipped back under Morley to grab the top spot back, with Mallonee close behind them in third. While Hart worked to hold off Morley and Mallonee, Jeremy Hull worked his way into the battle. Then disaster struck Hart on lap 15 when he pulled off the track with troubles, which handed the lead back over to Morley.

The second and final caution of the race appeared on lap 18, when second place runner Hull spun in turn 2 and collected Mallonee, who was running 3rd, and Adam Taylor, who was running 4th, to bring out the yellow. Morley moved back out front on the restart, with Brent Burrows, who started 8th, and Jacob Sollenberger following. Despite a few challenged from Burrows over the final laps, Morley was able to hold him off to pick up his first win of the season at 34 Raceway.

Burrows was 2nd, Sollenberger was 3rd, Hull recovered from his spin on lap 18 to come back up to finish 4th, with Taylor also recovering from his involvement in the lap 18 caution to come back up to finish 5th.

The final feature to take to the track was the 30 lap Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions 410 Sprint Series, with Chad Kemenah and Ian Madsen making up the front row. But just as the green flag was waved the red light would come on, as Brandon Matus, Tyler Esh, Jake Blackhurst, Tayler Malsam, and Josh Schneiderman collided in turn 1. At the same time Madsen got upside down in turn 4. Esh, Malsam, Schneiderman and Madsen went to the work area and made repairs to return for the restart.

On the restart Kemenah and Brian Brown were on the front row, with Kemenah jumping out front to lead lap 1 over Ryan Smith and Brown. The fast pace Kemenah was setting out front, forced him into lapped traffic by lap 6. While most of the field worked the bottom of the track, Bill Balog, who started 7th, went to the top of the track to work himself into second on lap 15. Five laps later, lap 20, Balog used the same groove to get the top spot away from Kemenah. Kemenah wouldn’t give up on the bottom of the track, as he slipped under Balog to edge him out at the line to lead lap 24 through more lapped traffic. Kemenah then held on over the final 6 laps to claim the win and the $5,000 check to go with it.

Balog settled for 2nd, Kerry Madsen started 8th and finished 3rd, Brown was 4th, with Paul Nienhiser coming home in 5th.
