New Egypt, NJ – After a number of seasons away, the John Romano Memorial is returning to New Egypt Speedway on Saturday night September 7th. The 30-lap, $840 to win/$84 to start affair is the one that all Hammer Sportsman competitors have had circled on their calendar since the beginning of the season, the event is being presented by 48Barriers.com and G&M Dill Trucking.

Romano, who had nine career wins at New Egypt Speedway passed away after a brief illness in 2009 did anything and everything that he absolutely could to help a fellow racer, whether it was lend them a motor, help change a flat or even run back to his own house to get parts. You name it; John did it to help them out. In fact, Saturday September 7th is the 10-year anniversary of John’s passing.

The number 84, which was synonymous with John’s racing career, will be seen a lot throughout the evening.

Lap money and a number of contingency bonuses will be handed out for the Hammer Sportsman teams on Saturday September 7th in honor of John. Bridgeport Speedway will pay $84 to each of the Sportsman heat winners that night. Impressive Media Group will pay $384 to the Hard Charger of the event, there will be $100 bonus to the “High Side Hustler” of the event and Mike Krachun of Amwell Auto Body has come up with a special one off trophy that will be presented to the winner along with sponsoring the purse increase for the night. If you are interested in sponsoring a lap or a contingency bonus, contact the Speedway office at 609-758-1900. Lap sponsorships are $25, $50, $84 and $100 per lap. Joe Infante of Precision Hydraulic and Xtreme Racing Lubricants has given us $500 in lap bonuses.

The Romano family including John’s wife Kristine and children John and Lindsey will be in attendance on the 7th. Kristine will wave the green flag for the Hammer Sportsman feature and John & Lindsey will give the command to the drivers to start their engines and be throwing t-shirts into the crowd throughout the evening. During intermission, drivers that raced with and or knew John Romano are being asked to come out and tell their favorite John stories with our announcer Nick Leach.

The Vahlco Wheels Modifieds, Crate Modifieds and Street Stocks will also be in action that night along with the Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club putting their cars on display.

Adult admission will be $20, Seniors (65+) are $18, Teens (12-15) & Military w/ID are $10 with Kids 11 & Under being Free.

Pit gates will open at 3pm, Grandstands at 4pm with Hot Laps being scheduled for 5pm and the first green flag fling at 6pm that evening.
