Risk Vs Reward; Is Sell On Saturday Worth Missing Sunday?
Something happened this past Saturday that has been building up for many years and unfortunately happened on our biggest stage of the year. On Lap 111 of the NASCAR Xfinity Series Race at Daytona Kyle Busch and Erik Jones made contact bunching the field up staring a chain reaction that caused a multi-car pileup sending Kyle Busch into the infield wall head on. Busch would be in obvious pain which we later found out was a compound fracture of the right leg and a broken bone in his left foot, his return to racing is indefinite right now.
What I’m getting at is, How long are these teams going to allow these superstar drivers to race on Saturday when Sunday is what pays the bills? I get that our sport is a very sponsorship driven sport, but how do you think M&M’s felt on Saturday afternoon watching the driver they invested millions of dollars into be carted out on a stretcher and unable to race until who knows when and all but eliminating any chance at making the NASCAR Chase for the Sprint Cup before the first race of the season? I just don’t think that the risk is worth it anymore, these guys all go to the race track to win on Sunday not Saturday, if you look at what the winner received to win on Saturday is a little over half of what the money just to start the Daytona 500 was. Is the seat time really worth it?
