HARTNETT WINS MODIFIED MAIN EVENT AT PENN CAN…BARTON, DIENHARDT, BEACH, D. ROBINSON, BRYDAN, AND T. FRANTZ ALSO WIN

Susquehanna, PA…The great racing action continued Friday at Penn Can Speedway with Barto, Pennsylvania resident and 2013 track champion Kevin Hartnett leading the modified feature from green to checkered. Popular 602 sportsman driver Dusty Barton of Susquehanna scored his first ever Penn Can Speedway victory. In the super competitive street stock feature, Steve Dienhardt from Windsor, New York made a late race pass on defending champion Jon Carpenter to get his first win of the season and second as car owner. Eric Beach of Susquehana was a first time winner in the factory stocks with Dylan Robinson of Harpursville, New York and Dan Bryden of South Gibson both winning their first ever Penn Can features in the twin twelve lap features for the four cylinders. Tim Frantz of New Milford was the Xcel 600 modified winner.

Kevin Hartnett and Brian Malcolm brought the modified field to the green with Hartnett getting to the bottom of the track with Malcolm running the high groove. The two would race side by side for the first three circuits until the first caution for a second turn tangle. When the race restarted Malcolm looked to get the advantage coming off turn two but Hartnett reclaimed the top spot going down the backstretch. The top two held their spots with Mike Loney, Alex Stanton, and Chris Piasecki following when the caution flew on lap ten for a fourth turn mishap. The running order saw last week’s feature winner, Nick Rochinski, moving up though the pack into the top five at the half way mark.

Hartnett and Malcolm continued their battle through the mid portion of the event with Stanton, Rochinski, Loney, and Dan Pompey following. The action slowed again on lap twenty when smoke came pouring from the engine compartment of the sixth place running car of Alan Rudalavage. This set up a ten lap dash with Hartnett leading followed by Malcolm, Stanton, Rochinski, and Pompey. Malcolm’s great run came to an end on lap twenty seven when a right rear exploded bringing out the final caution flag. On the restart Hartnett kept the car in the low groove holding off the hard charging Rochinski to score the win. Rochinski, Pompey, Stanton, and Loney rounded out the top five.

In the companion 602 sportsman feature Bob Janesky took the early lead in front of Alec Gennarelli, Nick Branning, and Todd Titus. Early cautions kept the field close. Dusty Barton was the man on the move coming out of the seventh starting postion. Barton got to second on lap for and took the lead one lap later with Randy Gates, Branning, and Janesky in tow. Newcomer Josh Keesey was the hard charger of the event coming from ten starting spot to move through the field into the second positionlate in the race. On the final restart, Barton held strong to claim his first ever Penn Can win. Keesey, Ryan Olsommer, Gates, and Brian Mady completed the top five.

Matt Spencer led the street stocks to the start of their twenty lap main event. Spencer lead the first few laps with Jon Carpenter mounting a charge folloed closely by the strong machines of Steve Dienhardt, Ryan Stone, Randy Fox, and Butch Green. Carpenter grabbed the lead on a restart and set sail. With Carpenter out front Dienhardt, Green, Fox, Stone, and Spencer raced under a blanket. With only one early caution Carpenter looked like he had things going his way until late in the race when Dienhardt showed his strength. Dienhardt caught and passed Carpenter for the lead on lap eighteen and when on to win his first feature of the season. Carpenter held on for second followed by Stone, Spencer and Fox in another exciting street stock feature.

The four cylinders were the featured division Friday running twin twelve lap features. In the first Dylan Robinson became a first time winner holding off Andy Brigham in a photo finish. Last week’s feature winner Don Doster came home third followed by Dan Bryden, and Mike Robinson. In the night cap Dan Bryden also claimed his first Penn Can win ahead of Don Doster Jr, Dylan Robinson, Kenny Underwood, and, John Maynard.

The factory stock main was another thrilling fifteen lap event with Eric Beach winning his first 2014 feature ahead of Buck Mills Jr, Tyler Arden, Kris Shimer, and Ted Mills III. In the Xcel 600 modified division Tim Frantz was the winner taking midway through the twenty lap event from Paul DeRuyter.

Kailee Dimorier, Kyle Fallis, and Will Eastman would round out the top five.
