HARTNETT WINS MODIFIED FEATURE… OLSOMMER, GREEN, DOSTER, MILLS, AND BOWES ALSO WIN

Susquehanna, PA…The Labor Day weekend of racing started off at Penn Can Speedway on a beautiful night at the three eighths mile oval. Defending modified champion Kevin Hartnett came into the evening five points out of the point lead. Starting in the ninth position, he made his way to the front and took the lead on lap nine and held off a hard charging Dan Pompey to win his fifth feature of the season. In the competitive 602 sportsman division, point leader Ryan Olsommer held off Brian Mady and Marty Bunker for another win to increase his point lead with only one race point race remaining. Butch Green held off a strong field of street stocks to win his third win of the year. Aaron Bowes continued his hot streak at Penn Can to win the Xcel 600 modified series race. Don Doster was the four cylinder winner with Ted Mills Jr winning in the factory stocks.

Steve Babicek was the early modified leader jumping out in front of Bob Trapper, Mike Loney, and Brian Malcolm. Early cautions kept the field close as the race progressed. Kevin Hartnett made his way to the top five after starting in the ninth starting spot. Hartnett moved into second and pressured Babicek. Hartnett went to the high side of the track trying to make the pass on the leader. Coming out of turn two on lap nine Hartnett moved to the lead. While all this was happening up front, the man on the move was Dan Pompey. Pompey moved into the top five at the halfway make picking off cars lap after lap. With five laps remaining, Pompey was on the bumper of Hartnett with Brian Malcolm close behind. Pompey did all he could to make the pass but came up a car length short. Hartnett won his fifth feature of the season followed by Pompey, Malcolm, Joey Colsten, and Billy Thornton.

Marty Bunker started from the pole of the 602 sportsman feature and jumped to the early lead. Mid race cautions kept the field close. At the halfway point Bunker was being pressure by Ryan Olsommer who took advantage of a slip by Bunker to take the lead over Bunker, Brian Mady, and Nick Mady. A lap fourteen caution brought the field back together for a six lap dash. Olsommer, Mady, and Bunker races side by side lap after lap with Olsommer keeping his mount in front of the two challenges and held on for the win. Brian Mady, Bunker, Randy Gates, and Alec Gennarelli rounded out the top five.

Ray Linquist took advantage of his third starting spot jumping to the front when a caution collected to top two cars. With Linquist in front Butch Green and Steve Deinhardt moved through the pack to pressure the leader. Green was able to wrestle the lead from Linquist with five laps remaining. Green kept strong for the win with Linquist holding off Deinhardt for second. Deinhardt, Kenny Sparks, and Doug Stack followed across the line.

Aaron Bowes has had the hot hand at Penn Can when the Xcel modified tour comes to the speedway. Friday wouldn’t be any different. Bowes took the lead mid race and held off Austin Burke, Will Eastman, and Ryan Higgs.

In the four cylinder feature Don Doster came into the night tied with Dylan Robinson for the division point lead. Doster did what was needed and won the feature. Robinson also had a good run finishing second. Rounding out the top five were Mike Robinson, Frank Kennedy, Frank Kenedy Sr, and Bill Titus.

In the factory stock division Ted Mills Jr, who brought out a new car the last time out, put the new mount into Victory Lane. He was followed to the line by Kris Shimer, Zack Mills, Nathan Hill, Eric Beach, Alan Komar, and Ned Fitch.
