POMPEY CHASES DOWN LEADER FOR SECOND 2014 MODIFIED WIN AT PENN CAN SPEEDWAY

Susquehanna, PA…The great racing action continued Friday at Penn Can Speedway with five action packed feature events thrilling the crowd on Master’s Concrete Night. Dan Pompey of Kingsley ran a very patient race, making a late race pass on leader Nick Rochinski of Dickson City to claim his second modified win of the season. In the 602 sportsman class, Alex Genneralli of Montrose survived a late race caution and held off Butch Green of Newark Valley, New York to win his second feature of his rookie season. Steven Deinhardt of Deposit, New York held off challenges of Ryan Stone of Hallstead to increase slightly his point lead in the street stock division. In factory stock racing Buck Mills and Eric Beach raced the entire fifteen lap feature side by side with Mills edging Beach at the flag. Nick Kennedy held off his three brothers to claim the four cylinder feature.

Nick Rochinski and Adam Mac George lead the field to the green with Rochinski vaulting to the top spot. Racing action was everywhere you looked with battles for position throughout the field. During the early stages Roshinski lead MacGeorge, Mike Loney, and Dan Pompey who started in the sixth position. Back in the pack point leaders Billy Thornton and Kevin Hartnett raced nose to tail working their way through the field. At the halfway mark Rochinski had opened up a commanding lead over MacGeorge, Loney, Pompey, Alan Rudalavage, Mike Nagel, and Brian Malcolm. On the seventeenth circuit Pompey started his move to the front. He got by Loney and then made the move to claim second two laps later and set out after Rochinski. As laps clicked off the Pompey cut into the Rochinski lead as the two started to catch lapped traffic. With five laps remaining the first caution of the race flew for the slowing car of Mike Nagel Jr. This set up a five lap dash with Rochinski out front followed by Pompey, MacGeorge, Rudalavage, Loney, Malcolm, and Hartnett. When the green came back out Rochinski and Pompey raced together for the top spot with the battle for position behind just as intense. The two leaders came to the two lap signal side by side at the flag stand. Going into turn three Pompey got a nose under and was able to take the lead at the white flag and stayed strong for his second win of the year. Roshinski came home second followed by Hartnett, MacGeorge, and Rudalavage.

Alec Genneralli’s team had a week’s worth of work to prepare his racer for action Friday at Penn Can. They worked through the week and repaired the damaged racer for this week’s racing. Genneralli took the lead early from Todd Titus with Brain Mady, Ryan Olsommer, Nick Mady, and Paul Rooney chasing. Racing was tight through the entire field. Genneralli was out front but the man on the move was the tenth starting Butch Green in the Randy Gates owned mount. Lap after lap Green cut into the lead. With five laps remaining Genneralli and Green were side by side for the top spot. Just as the cars were about to get the white flag the caution came and stopped their battle momentarily. When the green flag flew, Genneralli shut the door on Green and held on to win his second feature of his rookie season. Green was followed across by Nick Mady, Olsommer, and Brian Mady.

Every week the street stock put on excellent races for the fans and Friday would not be any different. In a race with very few cautions, Steven Deinhardt took the lead from Ryan Stone with Earl Zimmer and Ryan Stone on his bumper. Lap after lap Stone kept the pressure on Deinhardt with Zimmer, Wolf, Butch Green, Ray Linquist, Randy Fox, and Matt Spencer all swapping position for the top five spots. Deinhardt would stay strong and claim the feature victory over Ryan Stone, Earl Zimmer, Butch Green, Shane Wolf, and Randy Fox.

The factory stock feature was another very entertaining event. Point leader Eric Beach, Buck Mills, Mike Morse, and Ted Mill Jr would race for position during the early stages of the event. Once Buck Mills and Eric Beach broke through in an event that went caution free the two would race side by side the entire distance. Mills would come home a half car length in front of Beach with Morse, Mils Jr, and Nation Hill following.

The four cylinder feature saw the four Kennedy and Robinson brother fight it out for the top spot. Nick Kennedy would come out on top followed across by Frank Kennedy, Dylan Robinson, Mike Robinson, Don Doster Jr, and John Maynard.

PENN NOTES: The track was table top smooth all night making for great racing with many side by side battles in all divisions. Nick Rochinski has had some bad luck recently and certainly didn’t want the caution that bunched the field late in the modified feature. Dan Pompey stated in Victory Lane that he didn’t know if he could have caught Rochinski but that his car was really working late in the race. Next week is Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Night at Penn Can sponsored by Waymart Building Center. The Brian Malcolm modifieds will be on display behind the main grandstand next Friday. Twin 12’s for the street stocks originally scheduled for August 15th will be rescheduled. Kiddie rides for the young fans will be Friday August 15th. Next Friday the four cylinders will be running for extra cash courtesy of a four cylinder fan. The race will pay $150 to win if fifteen cars sign in, plus money throughout the purse.
