DIRTcar SPORTSMAN MODIFIEDS (24 entries)
Jay Mallory earned the 29th Ohsweken Speedway feature win of his career – and first since 2007 – in Friday’s Tom Mallory Memorial Sportsman Shootout named in memory of his late father. Mallory drew the pole position for the 25 lap feature, and held off late charges by Gary Lindberg and Brad Rouse to get the win. Lindberg started 12th, but had already made his way into the top 5 by lap 4, with Rouse just ahead of him.

Lindberg was up to 2nd on lap 13, and restarted right behind Mallory after a caution flag on lap 20, but couldn’t get by. Lindberg fell back after a last ditch effort, with Mallory winning by 6/10 of a second, followed by Rouse, Chad Chevalier, and Andrew Smith. Glenn Styres narrowly missed a top 5 finish, as the reigning Corr/Pak Merchandising 360 Sprint Car division champion started dead last and made a charge from 10th to 6th late in the race.

AFFORDABLE TOWING & RECOVERY THUNDER STOCKS (37 entries)
The Thunder Stock championship standings were shaken up on the first lap of the feature when Logan Shwedyk got sideways in turn two, touching off a chain-reaction crash which collected many championship contenders. Dereck Lemyre and Jim Lampman made repairs and recovered to finish in the top 10, but drivers like Dave Bailey, defending champ Dave Silverthorn, Jr., Chris Dickie, and Mikey Kruchka were not so lucky.

Ryan Dinning led all but the first lap of the feature race, but both he and eventual third place finisher Jesse McDonald had problems passing the post-race technical inspection. Under Ohsweken rules, they remained in their finishing positions in the final rundown, but did not receive points or purse money. June 19 feature winner Wyatt Van Wart took the runner-up spot, while Blake Bomberry, Jr. drove from 20th to 4th, and Bill Bleich, Jr. went from 24th to 5th.

Dave Bailey’s lead in the championship standings is now down to just 14 points over Wyatt Van Wart, and 16 points over Dereck Lemyre.

HRW AUTOMOTIVE MINI STOCKS (44 entries)
Several bouts of carnage punctuated the Mini Stock feature, including a wild, grinding crash down the backstretch which saw Mike Taylor barrel roll several times, and Shone Evans catapult end-for-end over top of him. Both drivers emerged from their cars relatively unscathed, as did June 19 feature winner Trevor Young, who flipped hard in turn two in a separate incident.

Rob Hoskins looked to be a contender for the feature win until a mechanical problem slowed him down. Jason Lungaro also took a turn in the lead, but his high groove heroics didn’t last, as both Mark Bazuin and Kathi Dickie got around him. Bazuin went on to take his first win of the season, followed by Dickie, Lungaro, Jon Janssens, and 28th starter Mike Evers, however Dickie’s car was found to be slightly underweight in post-race technical inspection. Under Ohsweken rules regarding weight violations, Dickie was moved to the bottom of the final rundown, moving Doug Erskine into the top 5.

Lungaro holds a 47 point lead in the championship standings over Robin Elliott and Gillian Hils, while Brandon Janssens and Jason Dixon are just 1 and 2 points behind Elliott and Hils for 2nd place.
